Beyond an environmental label

M3 Monaco developed the Smart & Sustainable Standard to assess and support marinas, yacht clubs and nautical centres in their transition towards sustainable practices and operational excellence. Its perspective extends beyond green technologies or a smaller environmental footprint: it considers the quality of the destination as a whole.

Infrastructure, people and practices belong together

A destination’s performance depends on more than its facilities. S3 brings infrastructure, operation, management and environmental performance together with guest experience, operational skills and procedures. The programme draws on existing certifications and labels to build a broader understanding of how the destination performs.

Local engagement can be part of excellence

Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina was announced at Regatta level in September 2026. Sailing programmes for children and marine turtle protection initiatives were among the activities highlighted. These examples connect the life of the destination with its local community and the protection of the marine environment.

Responsibility can begin at the design stage

At Ayla Marina, engineering and environmental responsibility were considered together, including the creation of marine habitats that support coral and biodiversity. At AMAALA Yacht Club, architecture, nature and responsible operation are integrated from conception, with the preservation of marine ecosystems informing the wider project. Both destinations were announced at Sovereign level.

Progress also comes from long-term commitment

Port de Saint-Florent’s Flagship recognition reflects the quality of its operation and an improvement approach developed over time. The September announcement highlighted projects underway to raise its standards further. Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sovereign recognition brings another perspective, connecting yachting excellence, education, innovation and environmental responsibility across the Club’s activities.

Recognition within a wider maritime ambition

S3 recognition at Flagship or Sovereign level is a prerequisite to apply for La Belle Classe Destinations by Yacht Club de Monaco. Affiliation follows a separate process and is not automatically granted with the S3 label. More broadly, the standard helps maritime destinations bring operational excellence, innovation and environmental responsibility into their long-term development.
